All I Want for Christmas is My Sanity, Please
Mommies Who Drink is one of my favorite books. Every time I say the title to someone who doesn't know the book, I get strange looks. Looks like, "Hmmm, I wonder if we should call Child Protective Services? She seemed so normal."
As soon as I found out I was pregnant with my first child, I went right into the nearest bookstore and bought What To Expect When You Are Expecting. The book should have been titled, A Million Ways That You Are Putting Your Fetus At Risk, You Selfish Whore. Seriously. What an awful book! I finally found comfort in my midwife who said, "If the mother is happy, the baby will be happy." Case closed.
Motherhood is like this. If Mama ain't happy, ain't nobody happy in my house. I am not insensitive to the needs of my children, or my husband, but I didn't surrender my life at the feet of my family.
If you are a Facebook addict, as I am, check out this wonderful group for like minded women: OMG I so need a glass of wine or I'm gonna sell my kids. It's a beautiful space to vent, show support, commiserate and sympathize. No judgment allowed. Or I'll hunt you down and spank your hypocritical ass.
