100,000 Miles

When I was a little girl, I distinctly remember being with my uncle when his van hit 100,000 miles.  We flashed the lights, honked the horn, cheered like crazy and stopped at the nearest gas station for Hershey bars.  It was a ritual that he took very seriously, and one that I never forgot.

Last night, my car hit the milestone. And although I have had other cars cross the barrier into the 6 digit mileage, this one took me all the way back. It's the only car my daughter has ever known, and the only one of mine that my son can remember.  And I wanted to flash my lights, honk my horn, cheer and get a Hershey bar.  So I did.  Well, kinda/sorta.  It was 9:30 pm and the odometer flipped when I was two houses away from mine.  I flashed my lights and whooped in the car, but honking was only going to drive everyone on the block mad. And while Hershey makes a great bar, I am a dark chocolate with blueberries kind of girl these days.  Even when things change, though, they stay the same.

It's still a celebration - a milestone - of my traveling life.  The car has been in at least nine states in the past seven years.  We've had good times and bad, one accident and lots of mishaps. But, my car, like my life, keeps rolling along.

I've been reminding myself to pay attention and look at the odometer every day so I wouldn't miss this special event.  On Sunday, I came across this video.  The universe has been very strange lately - putting symbolic posts and stories right in front of me at the exact right time that I need them.  This was absolutely precious and I did not see the ending coming.  So I won't spoil it for you, but grab a seat, buckle up and enjoy the ride.
