A Faithful Friend

This morning I stood in the bright November sun in a cemetery in Malden.  A graveside service for my husband's cousin was the occasion, for a woman taken too soon by the clutches of cancer.

The pastor spoke about her life, and the lives she touched.  It was a celebration of her life, not her death.  He reminded us through his readings and his words, that it is love and the living that we must hang on to when someone leaves.

He quoted Corinthians:
For there are these three things that endure: Faith, Hope and Love, but the greatest of these is Love.
He read from the Book of Sirach:
"A faithful friend is beyond price,
no sum can balance his worth."
He left us to dwell in her legacy, recall her kindnesses, and bask in the love of each other.
